Finance Sector Union, Level 2 321 Pitt St Sydney. (across the road from the Uniting church). Our guest speaker will be Alanna Maycock. Alanna will talk about her experiences in working with refugees, in particular those she sees at the Westmead clinic. Unfortunately David Isaacs is unable to make the meeting as originally planned.
Alanna is first and foremost a mum of two young boys that adore soccer just as much as she does. Alanna is a passionate Tottenham Hotspurs fan that will be on the first flight back to the UK if Tottenham win the premier league.
Alanna is a Clinical Nurse Consultant working in refugee health at the Children’s Hospital Westmead. Alanna has been working with refugees and asylum seekers in Australia and the UK for over twelve years. She currently manages the Health Assessment for Refugee Kids Clinic (HARK) that screens, supports and meets the needs of children from refugee backgrounds. In December 2014 Alanna was asked by IHMS to go to Nauru and assess some of the children and examine the health care service provision in the Regional Processing Centre on the Island. Alanna presents nationally and internationally on the health issues caused to children and their families by mandatory detention.
