Mental health on Nauru 'absolutely devastating' as Trump rejects refugees under extreme vetting

At a press conference in Sydney on Thursday, MSF Australia director Paul McPhun said “there is nothing humanitarian about saving people from sea only to leave them in an open-air prison”. MSF was ordered to leave the country on Friday following a Nauruan government order, with the charity confirming on Wednesday that “all its international staff have now left the island”.

Australia's Department of Home Affairs said 418 people had now been resettled in the US from both islands, but would not provide up-to-date data on how many refugees the US had rejected. In May, it told the Senate 121 refugees from Nauru had been knocked back, while 262 had been accepted.
